Plans for June 19, 22, 23

Tue, 06/16/2020 - 9:09am

As Dr. Martirano shared in his message last week, the remaining days of school will feature activities intended to wrap up the year by giving students opportunities to reflect on their online learning since March, assess and address their wellness, and celebrate the end of the school year. To that end, HCPSS and Hammond High have planned lessons and activities for students to engage in each day through June 23rd.

Here is some info about June 15th-June 18th and the half days on the 19th, 22nd, and 23rd:

June 15th-June 18th

Students will follow their normal meeting schedule for the week. Each content area has been assigned a different lesson to present that includes topics such as wellness and self-care, feedback on distance learning, accessing community resources, and reflecting on current events. Teachers will share information about lessons through their Canvas pages and announcements.

June 19th-June 23rd

Each of these days is a half day and no activities will go past 11am. Here’s what we have planned:

  • On Friday 6/19, students will join their class for Grade Level Assemblies at 9am. These meetings will be run by the Class Sponsors, administration, and student services. During these assemblies we will celebrate students, discuss the year, and reassure students that we will have a Spirit Week next year! (It just may not be in the fall.) Links for the meetings will be shared later this week.
  • On Monday 6/22, all of our clubs, groups, and activities will have a chance to wrap up for the year and check in with each other. This is also a great time for students to explore the many clubs, groups, and activities that we have to offer and explore further. Links for the meetings will be shared later this week.
  • On Tuesday 6/23, we will have a chance for our fine arts, drama, dance, and athletics teams to meet and wrap up the year and talk about next year and summer plans.  Links for the meetings will be shared later this week.

All meetings will happen virtually via Google Meet and codes will be sent out via the HaHS Student Community in Canvas by Thursday.

If you have any questions or concerns about the activities planned through the end of the year, feel free to reach out to your teacher, counselor, or administrator. Thanks.
